Right: Photograph of the velvet fiddler Necora puber (L.) (alt. Macropipus puber) by Ron Crosby. Comon names for this crab include Velvet swimming crab, velvet fiddler and devil crab (possibly because of its bright red eyes). Its rear legs are paddle like, making it an efficient swimmer, though it is usually found on or close to a firm surface. |
