Right: Photograph of a dogfish Scyliorhinus canicula (L.) by Christine Ryan. There are two related species - this, the smaller variety, is also known as a rough hound or rock salmon. Commonly found lying still along the bottom, close to the edge of the kelp line, it will often remain motionless allowing divers to get quite a good look. This species is characterised by the fact that the nostrils are connected to the mouth by a clear groove. |
